fears

Fears.

We all have them. In varying degrees, in varying stages. Some have made them an art form. That's why we have phobias. All sorts of them.

At a certain point we learn to live with them. Otherwise we freeze. We stop doing certain things because of the fears that those things bring us.

So we have to make the choice. Many of us move forward. Embracing our fears. Embracing the consequences. Embracing risk. Embracing life. Others unfortunately choose to live in the confines that their fears limit them to.

Fear is logical though. Statistically speaking it is possible to die from a billion different ways. Of course living in a war-torn, disease-infested country dramatically increases one's chances to step on death's door. But death is not just a possibility it is an eventuality we all must face. The question though that we must ask is this: what kind of a life is a life lived without the least amount of risks? A life driven by fear, brought low by denying any form of risk at it's best is boring. Death by boredom. Can I even imagine that epitaph.."here lies so and so, he died bored."

But once we have faced our fears and the risks associated with it, we have to make a decision. Is our fear, real as it may seem, surmountable? If it is, am I willing to face my fear and i's consequences?

But ultimately what will cause us to overcome our fear? Faith overcomes fear. Faith in God. Faith in ourselves. Faith in others. Ultimately, it is having the courage to stare our fears in the eyes and saying I am afraid but I choose to do it regardless of my fear because where I will be is better than where I am right now. Because the possibility is better than the current reality.
